Medical alert types: who actually answers?

Every safety device makes a chain: something triggers it, someone is contacted, and something happens if they don't answer. Here's that chain for each type, using products we checked on October 10, 2026.

How to read this

The safest chains have two properties: they don't depend on your parent pressing anything, and the first contact is someone awake 24/7. Automatic detection plus an operator (watches with FallCall or Kanega; pendants with fall detection) meets both. A 911-direct watch meets the first but puts no operator in the loop to call family or confirm the door is open.

Family-only alerts are useful layers. They are never the whole plan for someone at real risk of falls.

Robots and robot dogs are not on this list

We know of no consumer robot — including robot dogs and rolling camera robots — that offers verified fall detection with professional response in a configuration you can buy. Camera robots send video to your phone; that's a family alert at best. We'll add one when a purchasable configuration verifiably does the job.
